Persimmon is a stunning tree all year round, but was chosen for winter interest because the bark is really neat. It has cubed bark that resembles square plates, making it easy to identify in the winter.

What is the most frustrating thing about being a tree?
Having so many limbs and not being able to walk!
Did you know?
  • The wood is used to make billiard cues
  • According to folklore, if you crack open a persimmon seed from a ripe fruit and the shape inside looks like a fork, winter will be mild; if you see a spoon, there will be a lot of snow, and if you see a knife, it will be bitingly cold and "cut like a knife"
  • The fruit is used to make all kinds of treats, including delicious cookies
