Volunteers are essential to Douglas-Hart Nature Center. Many volunteers host the visitor center on weekends, assist with visiting school groups, help in our office, prepare mailings, staff the gift store, assist with restoration efforts, and complete woodworking projects. We would love to help you find a way to share your time and talent with us. Call us and we'll find a place for you!
The Douglas-Hart Nature Center is dedicated to the education, understanding, and enjoyment of nature. We need your help in this quest. Volunteers do not need any specific skills, but to get the most from their work experience with the Nature Center volunteers should have:
- An interest in People
- An interest in the outdoors
A respect for all living things
Weekend Host:
Volunteers are needed to host the Visitor Center on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and/or 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Sundays from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Greeting visitors and answering questions are the primary tasks involved in this job. Orientation is necessary.
Volunteer Naturalists:
Help lead school hikes and other related activities and work with staff on
special indoor and outdoor programs.
Visitor Center Volunteers:
Greet visitors. Answer telephone.
Natural Resource Volunteers:
Adopt a Trail. Help with identification, collection, and trail maintenance.
Special Projects Committee:
Perfect opportunities for those unable to make a weekly commitment. You can help with occasional one
time projects or periodic events such as mailings, workshops, exhibits, and
programs. Special skills, such as photography of nature for use in slide presentations or graphics creations, are also needed.
Maintenance Volunteers:
Work on light, general maintenance jobs such exotic species removal and tree planting or provide specific skills for a variety
of small projects (i.e., make bird houses, bat boxes, benches).
Public Relations Volunteers:
Help with the organization of program schedule and notification to the community.
Youth Volunteers:
Join our summer Youth Volunteer Program and assist with habitat improvment projects, maintenance of live exhibits, and assist with Summer Nature Study Programs.
Critter Care Volunteers:
Needed one hour per week to assist with feeding, watering, and cleaning cages.
Training provided. Help VERY much appreciated.
The opportunities for participation at the Douglas-Hart Nature Center are many and varied. You will have the opportunity to learn about our natural resources while sharing your knowledge and talents with other. We appreciate your interest in working with us and look forward to hearing from you.
