Tree Equity Grant - Round 1 - CLOSED
- These are small saplings, 1-2" caliper
- Trees for Round 1 available are:
- White Oak (Quercus alba) (20 Available)
- Redbud (Cercis canadensis) (20 Available)
- American Plum (Prunus americana) (20 Available)
- Flowering White Dogwood (Cornus florida) (20 Available)
- Saskatoon Serviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia) (20 Available)
- Each tree will include a tree guard, 1 bag of mulch, and 1 tree owner's guide. Planting is the responsibility of the person ordering.
- Trees may be for personal or business use, provided they are planted in a location designated below. If you are affiliated with the city of Mattoon municipality, in any form, trees will be available to you for planting in 2027 after a tree inventory and plan are completed for the city. Please email [email protected] to be placed on the Municipality tree list.
- Limit of 3 trees per person/household/location for round one.
- Once round 1 trees are spoken for, a waitlist link will be available below. PLEASE sign up for the wait list, and you will receive FIRST priority to claim trees in the next round before it opens to the public!
- Tree pickup is on Wednesday, June 17, 8 a.m.- 4 p.m., or Tuesday, June 23, 8 a.m.- 4 p.m., at the Douglas-Hart Nature Center (pull into the circle drive at the brown building next to the gravel lot).
- A volunteer or staff member will be on hand to assist you with tree pickup. Please bring a box with you to load up your items if needed.
- If you cannot pick up your trees during this time frame, please still fill out the tree form but also email [email protected] to arrange a pickup date/time.
- To qualify for a free tree, the tree must be planted in the green highlighted sections below. Click here to view the interactive map for detailed locations. You MUST be in Coles County, no exceptions!
