The Douglas-Hart Nature Center is looking for teens ages 12-17 for our new C.A.R.E. (Caring for Animals with Respect and Education) Club. In this club, members will learn about an array of animals and their basic care--from trimming beaks and claws to setting up proper enclosures to preparing species-specific diets. This volunteer club is perfect for aspiring veterinarians, zookeepers, and just animal-lovers in general. Starting in January, C.A.R.E. Club will meet on the 3rd Thursday of every month from 4-6p.m. C.A.R.E. Club members who meet volunteer goals will earn a free t-shirt and become Certified Animal Handlers of the Douglas-Hart Nature Center educational animals. Certified Animal Handlers will be able to assist the Nature Center staff in the daily care of our animals and handle them for special events and programs.
The C.A.R.E. Club will be run by educator Ms. Jess, who fosters homeless cats and kittens, is trained in low-stress animal handling, and is certified in pet first aid through the American Red Cross. Ms. Jess has previously worked in animal agriculture as well as in a humane society.
For more information about the club, contact Ms. Jess at the Nature Center at 217-235-4644, or email jhouseholder@mycci.net. Registration may be done online, over the phone, or in-person. This is no cost to join.

My teenage years were the best part of my life. Well, I think that being a teen is easy, but not all the time. Being a teen means that you can still make a lot of mistakes in life, but that does not make it easier. Sure, you can make mistakes as a team, but they still have a lasting effect in your life. I want people to enjoy their teenage life, because adulthood will come and bare its fangs on you.
