Our educational specialist will bring nature to you. Presentations will provide interactive hands-on experiences. Groups are limited to 30 students. Programs typically last 45 minutes to one hour. Outreach fees are $20 per program within a 20 mile range and $30 for 20+ miles.

 

Summer Reading Program: Have Book Will Travel

 

 A naturalist will visit your library and provide a presentation that will correlate with the Summer Reading Program. Programs are hands on and interactive for experiential learning. Fees range from $20 - $30 for a 45 minute to 1 hour presentation. 

Marvelous Migrations

Through hands-on activities we will learn about amazing animal travels from the swallows and butterflies to elephants and whales! includes interactive migration game and obstacles that may arise. Book: TBD

$20 within 25 miles/$30 for 25-50 miles.

Requirements: Medium - Large open room for movement, no chairs. 1 table for materials.

 

Animal Athletes!

Jump, skip and more! Let's get up and move as we compare ourselves to popular animals through music and movement. Who would win a game of tug of war, an elephant or a lion? Who would win a race? A cheetah or ostrich? Program looks at the different ways animals and humans move. Can a penguin skip? Or a rhinocerous jump? Book: TBD

$20 within 25 miles/$30 for 25-50 miles.  

Requirements: Medium - Large open room for movement, no charis. 1 table for materials. Projection screen with projector and internect connection preferred - to show video. (We can supply our own laptop and projector)

 

Where the Wild Things Are!

Let our naturalist present on amazing animals as we "travel" around the world on an animal and book safari. This is an exploratory presentation as we leave our North American animals behind and look at animals far away. Includes making a passport safari on animals they would like to see one day. Book: TBD

A Look at the Douglas-Hart Nature Center – A powerpoint presentation on the historic roots of the Douglas-Hart Nature Center and its progression moving forward through expansion, development, and mobilizing the green movement.

All About Owls – Hear the calls of local owls and discover what they eat by dissecting their pellets. A truly favorite program!

Animals In Winter – Where do all of our animals go in winter? Through a story, our naturalist will bring in signs of wildlife that helps show even in the coldest of winter, some animals are still active.

At Risk: A Look at Illinois Endangered Species -  Learn how so many critters became endangered and specific animals in our area that are considered threatened or endangered.

Batty About Bats – Are bats really blind? Do they fly in your hair? Through engaging activities, groups will learn about echolocation, the enhanced senses of bats, and answer a few common misconceptions about bats.

Earth Day – Available year round, but most popular in April, this program will stress the importance of recycling and what you can do in your community to make a difference.

How I Got My Wings: Butterflies and Moths – Learn to identify local butterflies in our area and explore their life cycle from start to finish.

H20 On the Go – We’ll help bring the water cycle to life through hands on discovery.

Reptiles & Amphibians – Learn about our common Illinois reptiles and amphibians as we compare and contrast the major similarities and differences through interactive demonstrations.

Spiders – Their creepy and crawly and they make some of us nervous. Let’s learn the characteristics of spiders that make then so fascinating - like building a giant web!

Tracks and Scat Who Did That – Become a detective and help solve the mystery of Who Done It?

Wiggle Worms – Meet the worms up close for a scientific investigation of our earthly friends who making our soil rich and ground dark.

Wiggles and Giggles (Preschool Only) – This program is just for our little ones. Singing, dancing, fingerplays and puppet shows all about nature!
